World Book Day is a celebration of literature and reading. This year it occurs on Thursday 2nd March and children are encouraged to go to school dressed up as their favourite book characters. The day is celebrated in over 100 countries and is a chance for children to value reading and have a fun-filled day with many schools and communities putting on special events for the day.
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of World Book Day and the main aim of the day in the UK is to show children how many interesting books there are and that it can be fun to read. Many participating schools will receive book tokens which children can then take to a local book store and exchange for one of ten pre-selected books.
In a world that is full of digital interaction and social media, we feel like this day is of high importance to keep reading on the map for children.
