We all know Christmas is the season of indulgence. There are so many delicious options to be had and it can be extremely hard to resist. And why not treat yourself for the festive period!
However, this Christmas eating can often lead to weight gain and we soon arrive in January wondering how to shed the pounds. There are many options available to help you get fit and lose some weight if desired. Eating well and getting enough exercise are the vital components to staying fit and healthy.
Here is how to start the new year a happier, healthier you:
As January is the time when many people want to get fit, gyms all over the country will be promoting joining offers. This usually includes free passes, free months, no joining fees, and free classes. Be wary of signing up for a 12-month membership as motivation may dwindle after a few months and you are then locked into paying for the rest of the year. Gyms such as ‘Pure Gym’ and ‘The Gym’ offer pay per month prices so you can cancel anytime you want. If you want exercise classes double check which gyms include classes in the price and which you must pay extra for.
There is a whole range of healthy cookbooks out there including many from famous cooks including Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver, Gino D’acampo and fitness guru Joe Wicks. We recommend Everyday Superfood by Jamie Oliver. This book is full of healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are also easy to make. For veggies, we like Deliciously Ella Every Day by Ella Woodward. Ella’s book contains some delicious recipes which are simple to make and are very healthy indeed! Cookbooks can be a great source of inspiration when you are stuck making the same meals each week.
Instead of staying in watching TV at the weekend go out shopping…yes, you heard it right! Browsing your favourite shops for around three hours could help you burn 750 calories. Who says working out can’t be fun! Another option is to plan fun days out with friends. How about venturing to Go Ape? A fun tree top adventure. If you are in a couple plan to do exercise together, this provides motivation. Go on morning jogs, evening gym sessions and weekend walks.
Not a fan of the gym? How about joining a class that you could go to after work or at the weekend? There are many new and exciting classes available including water aerobics, Zumba, trampoline fitness, Bollywood dancing, aero barre and acrobatics. Or how about buying some workout DVD’s and exercising at home? A good idea is to get up early before work to do a workout. This is one of the best times to exercise to burn fat and you will go into work feeling alert and refreshed!
Ok so this a bit extreme, but if you want a dog or already own one they can be a great exercise companion! Taking your canine on a couple of walks each day can help you both stay fit and healthy.
We wish you luck in your exercise endeavours!
