With Mother’s Day coming up we thought we would celebrate all things female! Women have come far over the past few decades striving for gender equality, successful careers, and balancing motherhood with work. It’s no easy task and we all need an inspiring role model to look up to, to encourage us to achieve our dreams.

Below are some of our ultimate role models who we think are fierce and super inspirational. These women are kind, compassionate, successful, and powerful. Girl power!

JK Rowling – Author


JK Rowling in an English author and most recognisable as the writer of the Harry Potter series. She has sold an estimated 500 million book copies, making her the 9th best selling author of all time. She is a motivated and talented woman who has done extremely well for herself.

Rowling wrote her first book whilst struggling as a single mum on welfare. She spent most of her days writing Harry Potter in cafes with her baby daughter in a pram beside her. In 1995, the manuscript was sent out to 12 publishers, all of which rejected it. However, one year later publishing house Bloomsbury gave her the go ahead.

JK Rowling is an inspiration as she worked hard for what she wanted whilst in difficult circumstances.

Serena Williams – Tennis Player


Serena Williams is one of the top female tennis players in the world. She has been ranked World Number One a total of eight times. She currently has 23 Grand Slam singles wins. She also has 14 Grand Slam doubles wins. Her achievements are outstanding, and she is a brilliant role model for any women wanting to go into sports.

Oprah Winfrey – Media Mogul & Philanthropist


Oprah is a famous American talk show host. The Oprah Winfrey Show was the highest rated tv show of its kind in the US and Oprah has been referred to as “arguably the most influential woman in the world”.

Her talk show has an intimate approach allowing people to express their emotions which she has been highly praised for. She is also a philanthropist who has donated millions to several charities.

She has a long list of accomplishments and is a great influence for us ladies.

Michelle Obama – Lawyer, Activist, Former First Lady


We all know Michelle Obama as the First Lady of the US (between 2009 and 2017). But she is also a successful lawyer and writer. She had several roles before becoming First Lady including Law Associate, Associate Dean of Student Services (University of Chicago) and Vice President for Community and External Affairs (University of Chicago Hospitals).

Obama is a strong independent woman who is a great role model for all women. She is also a supporter of education, nutrition, and poverty awareness.

Emma Watson – Actress and Activist


Emma Watson is well known for playing ‘Hermione Granger’ in the Harry Potter franchise. Since then she has starred in a range of films including ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Alongside her acting career, she attended Brown University and graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. Also that year, she became an ambassador for UN Women and played a role in launching the ‘HeForShe’ campaign which encourages males to support gender equality.

Watson has used her status to promote important issues such as education for girls, visiting countries including Zambia and Bangladesh to show her support. She has maintained a successful career whilst studying and becoming an activist. Go girl!
